A Headstone in Our Garden

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

I guess that I felt that we needed a way to remember our cat, Spade. She was definitely one of a kind. I looked into pet headstones to see what types were available, and I found some that looked quite great for our garden. We did not want a plot in the pet cemetery, so we just made a little spot in the garden for her. I guess that she will always be in our hearts, but now she will forever be in our garden. It makes me pretty happy to be able to provide this for her. I never though that she would even live this long. We were kind of amazed when she kept going and going! However, she decided that it was time for her to leave us one day, and so she went. We found her in my bedroom, at peace. It was nice to know how she went, and I am glad that she didn’t get into an accident or anything like that.

How to Let Your Dog Live Inside: Housebreaking a Dog

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Housebreaking a dog is usually a very stressful time, for both you and your dog. You are becoming a wreck because you have to keep cleaning up after all the accidents your dog is having and your dog may not be learning as quickly as you would like. While, on the other hand, your dog may not understand what housebreaking a dog is all about. It is just doing its own natural process of cleansing its body of digestive system toxins and then its owner starts yelling at it. It is a very stressful time, usually. But does it have to be stressful? Not at all!

The easy way to become a pro at housebreaking a dog is simple. You need to know that once you eat you have to go to the restroom sooner or later. But for dogs, it is usually sooner. Dogs use the restroom thirty minutes after eating. So what you do is feed your dog and around thirty minutes later take them outside and wait for them to use the restroom.

Why Do Betta Fish Have Different Colors?

Monday, August 8th, 2011

Betta fish are prized for their many types of colors. Very few Betta fish have the same colors and many have different blends of colors. One reason there are so many Betta Fish Colors is because male Bettas use their colors in order to defend their territory. When another fish approaches a male Betta’s territory, he puts on a vibrant display in order to threaten his opponent. In other species, animals tend to back down from these challenges.

However, Bettas are a different matter and the males almost always fight in this situation. Once challenged by the colorful display, an aggressor will always take the challenge and these fish will fight. That is why they are known as Siamese Fighting Fish. Over time, Bettas developed different colors that they hoped would help fend off predators and other aggressors. This clearly worked so the new colors were passed on from generation to generation.

How to Detect Fleas on Human

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

It may probably surprise you but there can be fleas on human. They do not just depend on your pet’s blood to survive; they can make you their host, too. Fortunately, you do not have to be an unwilling host forever as there are things you can do to effectively get rid of these fleas.

You will know that fleas have bitten you by the following signs: presence of small, reddish spots mostly found on your legs or ankles that are itchy. These spots are somewhat raised but not swelling. Bleeding may happen when the spots are scratched.

You may or may not respond to flea bites. Some do not react to bites at all except perhaps when the spots become itchy; while others may be sensitive to flea bites and show signs of allergic reactions that can range from mild to severe. It is therefore necessary to get the bites treated and more importantly to get rid of the fleas permanently.

On Dog Names and Dog Potty Training: Stripping Away the Myths

Monday, July 18th, 2011

So you think you know all there is to know about dogs and training them. You’ve gathered all the books you believe are necessary – on dog names, dog care, dog training, etc. But sometimes not all you get from books are enough. As they say, experience is the best teacher. So here are some myths on potty training which I would like to share with you.

Question: Isn’t water alone enough to neutralize the scent of dog pee?

Answer: Nope. You must use an odor neutralizer that comes available in stores. Your dog has a very strong sense of smell. It can still recognize its scent even if there’s just one part urine amidst one million parts of water. So if the odor is not neutralized successfully, expect your dog to return to the scene of the crmie inside your house.

Question: I can’t see how what our dog eats affects his bowel behavior?

Answer: It’s simple. What your dog eats he eliminates. So the more times you feed him, the more frequently he will need to go outside. So it’s best to give the right amount of food to your dog. The better quality stuff is even better. Specially formulated and all?

Allergic Dermatitis: One Among Common Dog Skin Problems

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

When my dogs got cured of their skin problems, I continued my research about their common skin ailments. I learned that dogs also suffer from allergic dermatitis. Knowing about allergic dermatitis, I realized that dogs are like human beings too. If human beings need nourishment for their skin, dogs should also enjoy the same. Allergic dermatitis is one among dog skin problems triggered due to unsafe environment and malnutrition. I could still recall purchasing canned goods for their daily ration. When dogs suffer from allergic dermatitis, they usually exhibit allergic reactions like excessive itching or scratching, licking, and biting. I could not imagine the pain my dogs would acquire if they will suffer from allergic dermatitis. I would not allow it to happen for them. It is good to clean their shelter daily than seeing them in the clinic of my vet suffering from excessive itchiness. Good nutrition is also a secret to fight allergic dermatitis.

Significant Steps to Do in Cases of Dog Seizures

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

All we can do in cases of dog seizures is to make sure that the surrounding area is safe while the dog is having the attack, same procedure as with humans having seizure attack. It is a big no-no to put anything inside the mouth f the dog while the attack is ongoing. If you will insert your finger or a tongue depressor inside the dog’s mouth; you might just injure yourself due to accidental biting or endanger your dog’s life through choking. Just stay calm as the spasm will just stop eventually. Your dog needs you to be well attentive and alert on this occasion. The dog’s life lies in you, on how you deal with this stressful situation. After the attack, try to make your dog as comfortable as he could be and minimize any loud noise or bright light. Lastly, if the dog has regained consciousness, you can seek immediate help from the vet; remember not to forget the details and note about that recent seizure attack so you can relay it well to the vet.

The Essence of Praise in Golden Retriever Training

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Do you know that praise or positive verbal remarks play an important role in golden retriever training? Do you praise your dog whenever he does something remarkable or every time he obeys your commands? Perhaps you’re not fond of lifting up your goldie’s spirit. Aren’t you aware of the essence and benefits of praise when training your golden retriever pet?

Well, be informed that lots of praise is just what your dog needs in order to do well in any golden retriever training program. Indeed, most dogs perform better if they constantly receive positive remarks and rewards. They strive better to please their masters if they can see some sort of result with regards to whatever they’re doing. And it is through your praise or verbal remarks that you get to make your pet feel proud of themselves.

The good thing about praise is that it’s free; you can give as much as you want without having to get any negative effects. The more you praise your golden dog, the more confident and obedient he grows to be. It’s truly a beneficial and fun thing to do. Moreover, it is also through praise that you can strengthen your relationship with your dog.

So why yell at your dog or scold him if giving praise is the only good way to make him obey, trust and respect you? Why settle for harsh methods if you can actually have fun doing golden retriever training through praise, rewards and other positive training solutions?

What Makes A Good Bird Toy

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

There are literally thousands of bird toys available to buy and sometimes choosing the right toy can be a difficult task. There is nothing worse than buying a new toy only to have your pet reject it after you spent money on something that you can’t take back.

In my opinion, a good bird toy will not be made of plastic or acrylic. It is OK to have plastic pony beads incorporated into a toy, however plastic is not a natural material that any bird really wants to play with.

Birds love anything that resembles what thew would find in their natural habitat. Anything that contains wood blocks, natural fibers, and bright colors, generally will make a good toy for your pet bird.

Before buying a toy, ask yourself, is this made of natural items that would entice my bird? If not, then I would not waste your money on something that will just go to waste.
